Ive been listenting to an old scratched Cd. Ballydowse's first album. I dare say these crazy hippie punk rockers had quite an impact on me, nose piercings, dreads and all.
Tale of the Ballydowse
"Underbred and underway,
we'll leap into the fray,
throwing for the lovely underdogs,
underbrush and underbelly,
flags flying willy nilly,
we'll undermine the greedy and the proud,
come along all are welcome,
silver spoons to empty pockets all,
raise your glasses and raise your voices,
aint against us then be for us,
no paradise we'll reap,
but we'll go down plowing just the same,"
Walkin' On
"Dont hear their hearts beating,
Cant smell the sweat in which they bathe,
her hand gropes for a crust of hope,
mine wastes everything she craves,
I've never known true hunger,
shackles have never graced these hands,
I've lost the sacredness of life,
Im choking on the fat of this land
We reject your endless hoarding,
in fear you build your hives,
no longer wishing to be a part,
we leave your gods your ways behind.
A vapor is the length of life,
mine dissapears in the warming sun,
I wanna look my children in the eyes
and tell them which side i was fighting on."
They put to rhyme and tune exactly the ideas and convictions i had been wrestling with.
There is nothing more encouraging than finding someone who knows exactly what you feel.
Father let us love as you first loved us. Let us see as you see past the masks to
the brokenness. Let our hearts break at the things that break your heart. Give us your
passions that our hands might move only for you.
